Page Six. Cordoba and Granada

Our fifth day in Spain was another fine day. We didn't need to do much walking around. In the morning we visited the archeology museum in Cordoba. I especially liked a large Roman mosaic of a nature scene in which the crocodile looked very much like some sort of dinosaur. No photography was allowed. Then we stopped at the Great Mosque of Cordoba to say some prayers have a look around. We then enjoyed a stroll through the park on our way back to the train station. We took a train to Seville and ate our lunch at the station there, and then took a second train from Seville to Granada. We walked from the train station to our hotel, and then, after a short rest, had a look around the town. We had a late dinner and turned in for the night a little after midnight.

Forward to the next day.
Jeri studies a menu Interior of great mosque Great Mosque in Cordoba
Jeri studies the menu in the little place across the street from our Hotel while we consider what to have for breakfast. This is the interior of the Great Mosque of Cordoba, where we came to add our prayers to those of thousands of others who came before us.. Here is another view inside the Great Mosque. It stretches out into the far distance, but I only took photographs near the ends of the rows of columns.
Near the Archeological Museum, a courtyard A funny looking grasshopper View of a castle on a hill
The archeology museum in Cordoba allows no photography, so here is what the buildings across the street look like when you look out from the shady plaza in front of the museum. This is a strange sort of grasshopper we noticed as we were walking through a park in Cordoba. Doesn't it look funny? Here is a castle in Spain. It's by a small town on the route between Cordoba and Seville. We took a slower train that stopped more frequently, but gave us a better chance to admire the scenery.
Sandwiches and juice in coffee shop Scenery in Andalusia Victory Park in Granada, the fountains
A fine lunch in Seville. This is the largest lunch we have had yet. To get the orange juice, the bartender put oranges in a machine that squeezed them. There were some scenic views as we rode in the train from Seville to Granada. It's a pity we were facing backward, as that made us feel unwell. As we were walking from the train station to the center of Granada we passed Victory Park, where we admired the fountains.
View of shop from our balcony A tower of the Alhambra Exterior of the Royal Chapel in Granada
We stayed the night in the lovely little Vienna Pension Austria. This was the view out our window. The shop across the street was typical of those in Granada's tourist zone. This is a view of the Alhambra from the plaza near our hotel. If you click on the image you'll see the plaza in the large picture. This is the outside of the Royal Chapel in Granada, next to the cathedral. No photography is allowed inside, so the outside is all you can see here.

The Cathedral exterior in Granada. A view of the Alhambra from the scenic view point at Saint Nicholas Church. This view of the Alhambra with the moon above might make a good background for a presentation slide.

The Alhambra is illuminated by spotlights in the night. Rick Steves recommended the Kasbah as a good example of the sort of restaurant we could find near our hotel. We recommend it as well. Our dinner in the Kasbah restaurant in Granada.

The Next Day we visited saw the Alhambra and travelled to Seville.

Granada was another spectacular city. The Alhambra was probably one of the most inspiring and romantic places I have ever seen. We could easily have enjoyed three days in Granada.
