The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar as seen from the Roman Bridge over the Ebro in Zaragoza. Another view across the Ebro as we walked from downtown Zaragoza to the Expo 2008. A fountain with some frogs near the Expo 2008 gates.

Orbs, balls, bubbles, drops, and globes were common decorative themes at the Expo. Chun-Chih admired this exhibition room with plants growing on most of the room's surfaces. One of the famous little 10th or 11th century carved boxes from Spain, this one with some 13th century enamelling added to it. Many precious artifacts such as this one were exhibited by various Spanish regional pavillions and international pavillions.

As the sun set and the exhibition halls began to close the temperature dropped and it became very comfortable to walk around outdoors. The Spanish pavillion, pictured above, was very popular, and we never could get in to see what was inside it. The blue structure is about water extremes such as hurricanes, storms, floods, and so forth. This was another popular thing we didn't see.

The face of King David as imagined by the Spanish painter Pedro Berruguete (who lived from around 1450 to 1504). A Roman head of Gaius Octavius Thurinus, also known as Caesar Augustus (63 B.C. to 14 A.D.). This was carved a generation or two after Augustus died. In this detail from a 15th century painting we see a woman holding a tower model and a quill.

A fountain in the evening at Expo 2008. The freshwater aquarium building. This was a very popular fountain, and children or even whole families were playing in it every time we walked past it.

The Next Day we went to explored Zaragoza and went to Expo 2008 for our second day.
