A 1,500-1,600 year-old realistic human portrait in a vessel made in Peru by an artisan or artisans of the Moche culture.
This gold plate is from Central America, and it seems to show some guardian or guide spirits with reptile (probably snake) heads. The plate is very old, more than 500 years old. Another very ancient Peruvian artifact from the Moche culture, which flourished over 1,400 years ago.

A Louis Tiffany gold vase from about the year 1907. This and the precolumbian artifacts above were in the Kalamazoo Institute of Arts.
Once we arrived in Goderich, we began to do research on the history of our ancestors and their families in Huron County. Some of my great-great-great grandfather's family lived in Varna, which is described above in a document from the mid-to-late 19th century.
For fun, I spent an hour in the late afternoon reading newspapers published in 1880-1881 in Goderich. The above image shows some of the language used by advertisers back then.

The museum in Goderich has a good display of home decor and furnishings of the Victorian era in this part of Ontario. Above is a formal dining room.

Here is Virginia Ives floating in Lake Huron.
We sent swiming at Rotary Cove Beach in Goderich.
Looking out at Lake Huron in the afternoon, a lifeguard station and a mother with her daughter are seen against the background of Lake Huron.

We had dinner at Thyme on 21, a good restaurant in Goderich.
I had the one vegetarian dish on the dinner menu, Thai noodles. It was delicious, as was the side order of mushrooms.
Creme Brulee for desert. I allow myself two or three servings of Creme Brulee per year.

My parents enjoying the sunset.
My parents looking out over Lake Huron in Goderich. My dad has two great-grandparents who came from Huron County in Goderich Township, and my mom's great-grandfather was born here and spent his childhood here in Goderich, and his parents were from nearby Stanley Township and Bayfield, although they eventually moved to Goderich.

Goderich Lighthouse with Paul Orsay and Virginia Ives in front of it. The Goderich lighthouse was first built in 1847. It's likely my great-great grandfather watched sunsets from near this lighthouse when he was a boy in Goderich.
