Costs. (Day, expense, Cost in 2015 U.S. Dollars, Cost in percent of median year-round full-time income)
(Thus 1,080 Myrfti is 10.8% of a median year-round full-time American income, while 230 Myrfti is 2.3% of median year-round full-time income. To convert costs into current dollars, simply multiply the costs in the far right column times the current median year-round full-time American income, divide by 10,000, and you'll have an idea of current costs. Otherwise, use a Consumer Price Inflation adjustment to 2011 with the dollar figures. The resulting cost estimates should be similar, at least if travel costs and incomes have matched inflation).
The two-person prices assume an adult couple sharing a bed, and the four-person costs assume a family of four with two children aged between 12 and 17.

Price checks were made in November 2015 using $45,500 as the median year-round full-time income for MYRFTI calculation.
$1 = 0.22 Myrfti in 2015. A single Myrfti was $4.55 in 2015.

Category Expense details Cost in 2015 US$ Cost in Myrfti
Gas costs Gas for the trip. The total distance is 2,900 miles. I'll say that is $580 (car getting 20 mpg and gas costing $2.50 per gallon)

2 persons $360
4 persons $360

2 persons 79
4 persons 79
Vehicle costs Wear and tear on a car and depreciation of a car. By my calculations, the non-gas costs in loss of value or wear and tear on a vehicle is about 23¢ per mile in 2015. Much of this cost is not realized until one sells the car or takes it in for maintenance at a date long after the trip.

2 persons $667
4 persons $667

  Lodging

Total lodging cost.

Three nights at least expensive Disney Hotel in Orlando, $600
Three nights at Super 8 Orlando International Drive, $395
One night Wakulla Spring Lodge near Tallahassee, FL $132
One night in Days Inn Panama City Beach, FL $66
One night in Wingate By Wyndham- Mobile $86
Two nights in Super 8 New Orleans, LA $250
One night in the Ramada Vicksburg, MS $51
One night at the Days Inn Graceland in Memphis, TN $69
One night Microtel, Ste Genevieve, MO $74

This trip plans for almost all stays at Wyndham Hotels (assumes the traveller joins the Wyndham Rewards Program) hotel rates were checked with State employee discount, AAA discount, and advance booking pre-paying with internet. In almost all cases, the state employee discount and the AAA discount were approximately the same, and the pre-pay internet reservation discount was $4 to $7 per night less expensive than either the state employee or AAA rate. I used the lowest rate I could find in estimating hotel costs.
If the traveller used a Wyndham Rewards Program number and gathered credits on this trip, they would accumulate sufficient points to get some free nights in Wyndham motels.

  Total Costs

The total cost estimates are ignoring the costs of purchasing souvenirs, but as the food costs are probably exaggerated, the total costs with spending money for souvenirs is likely to be about what is predicted here.

Total Cost for a family of four is about 20% to 23% of a middle-class (household with income equal to 120% of the median year-round full-time worker’s pay) household’s income. For two persons the cost ranges between 13% and 14% of the middle-class household’s income.

2 persons $6,200
4 persons $9,850

2 persons 1363
4 persons 2165

Using a model where $54,600 ($4550 per month) would be 120% of about the median income of $45,500 in 2015, and stands as the household income for this scenario:

To afford a vacation like this every two years, a typical family budget for a family earning 120% of the median year-round full-time income might allocate money in this way each month:

Housing and utilities: 25% ($1138 per month)
All taxes: 23% ($1047 per month)
transportation expenses (gas, vehicle insurance, maintenance, saving for purchasing vehicles): 8.5% ($387 per month)
Groceries, food, and household supplies: 10% ($455 per month)
Savings for a trip like this every two years: 11% ($500 per month)
Savings for retirement: 5% ($227 per month)
Savings for children's college expenses: 4% ($182 per month)
Health insurance and health care expenses: 7% ($318 per month)
Charitable giving: 1.5% ($68 per month)
Miscellaneous other expenses: 1.5% ($68 per month)
Clothing: 1.5% ($68 per month)
Other entertainment, Internet, cable television, movies, etc.: 2% ($91 per month)
