Autumn 2017 leaf images and patterns

These patterns are things I made with scans of leaves. The linked large images are very big (from 4800x4800 to 9750x9750 pixels), so they may take a while to load.

A series of details patched together from the leaf patterns I made from scanned images of leaves I picked up in our yard. The Asian pear trees in our yard impress me with their fine blossoms in the spring and their colored leaves in the autumn. A neighbor up the block a few houses from us has a ginko tree, and the leaves symbolize longevity and endurance.

Maple tree leaves in our front yard. Another variety of maple tree in our front yard had these bi-colored leaves this year. Sweetgum leaves on a neighbor’s tree.

Farm I like to notice as we drive north on I-55 from Saint Louis to Sprigfield. It seems we mostly get rainy or cloudy days in late October and early November, but on the few sunny clear days that we do get, I love to admire the leaves. In the morning on my way to work, this is one of the first scenes I notice, as I pull out of my driveway and begin my way toward campus.

Arthur came for a visit during the first weekend of November, and when I returned him to Saint Louis to catch his flight, the vegetarian restaurant where we planned to have lunch was closed, so we went across the street to Pi Pizza to have a little pizza for our meal. I have always enjoyed watching the massive flocks of blackbirds or starlings in the autumn. There can be so many of the birds that they seem like clouds or whisps of smoke when you see them from a distance; it is a wonder how so many individuals can coordinate their movements The landscaping at my university always thrills me in early November or late March through April, as so many trees take on delightful colors of the autumn, or show lovely blossoms in the spring.
