Photographs of friends and people we have met

Most of these 36 photographs were taken in Summer of 2007 during our visit to Asia. There are a few from our 2004 visit to Taiwan and a 2006 visit to Chicago. Clicking on images will open a new window (unless your browser blocks new windows) displaying the original image. Some of the original images are of immense size (a few megabytes each).

There is a first page of images of people we met (the fourth of seven pages). This page is the fifth. The sixth page also has many pictures of people. You can see several pages of images from the summer of 2007 and other times we’ve visited Asia.

In June of 2004 we visited the Confucian Temple of Taichung, Taiwan. Our friends Li-Wen and Ju-Ning took our family there. Here is our family in front of the Confucian temple with our friend Ju-Ning. Liwen and Chunchih Another photo of Liwen and Jeri Chicago Chinatown
In February 2006, during the CSWE conference in Chicago, we went to lunch with our friend from Taichung, Li-wen Liu. Here she is with Chun-chih (Jeri). Li-wen and Chun-chih having some tea before lunch in Chicago's Chinatown. My friend Chung works in Chinatown and is a good guide to some of the pleasant restaurants there. Here is the whole group of friends who shared lunch that cold Chicago day: Li-wen, David, Eric, Arthur, Chun-chih, Sebastian, Jean-Jacques Girardot, and Chung. (Chung and David were classmates of mine in the early 1990s when we earned our M.S.W.s at GWB)

In 1990-1992 the three of us all lived and worked in Chiayi, Taiwan as English teachers. Here is Ling Kuo's little niece in the E & L Café across from the park in Chiayi. Notice the cute safety helmet she is wearing. Ling Kuo and her niece are about to drive away, and are bidding me goodbye.

In Chiayi at the night market on Wen Hua Road we had some crepes from this vendor. The crepe vendor and her friends seem to be having a good time. Next to the crepe vendor was an older cendor who had exquisite wood carvings and wooden pieces made with a lathe.

In the Wen Hua Road night market. Here we are with one of the crepe vendor's friends. Chun-chih is approaching the stalls from Potato House and the crepe vendor. The Wen-Hua (Culture) Road night market in Chiayi mainly offers clothing and "snack foods" (foods that don't include rice). Here my banana crepe is prepared. Night Markets are mentioned as thriving during the Song Dynasty (about 1000 years ago), and probably existed during the Tang, and even the Han dynasties.
Youren and Ling Kuo Yaoren and Howard Ling Kuo and Yaoren
Yaoren and Ling Kuo are two good friends, after I practically lived in the E & L Coffee Shop in Chiayi while I taught an online human nature course. Ling Kuo is one of the owners of E&L. Here is Yaoren and Howard. Howard was another regular customer at E & L during the summer of 2007 while I was hanging out there. Ling Kuo and Yaoren. Thank you to you two for offering the public a free Internet hotspot in your lovely little coffee shop. I was so glad to work (and eat and drink) in the E & L Café.
Macau Cathedral Howard at E & L Young Couple in Hong Kong
At night I take photographs by putting my camera on a solid object, setting the exposure for a second or some large fraction of a second, and using a timer. This lovely girl from the Philippines happened to be standing in front of the Macau Cathedral when my timer went off and I took this photo, so I told her I'd put it up on the Internet when I got home so she could have a copy. Here is another photograph of Howard. He's an ethnic Chinese from the Philippines who speaks English with a beautiful accent that reminded me of my old college friend from the Philippines, Arnold Santillian. Anyway, Howard teaches English conversation and he plays around with computers (by this I mean he's interested in technology more than computer gaming). Have you ever watched a cute couple take photographs of themselves and wondered to yourself what sort of people they are, and what their stories are like? Well, I took a bunch of photographs of this couple (from Shanghai, I think) as they stood and took these photographs with the Hong Kong skyline behind them. I've put the images up here so they can download them.

The red light from the camera illuminates their faces. They seem to like each other. Back in 1992 Chun-Chih and I were in Hong Kong, just like this young couple in 2007.
