月球(Moon)俗稱月亮是一個小型的雙行星，它跟随著地球沿著太陽的軌道繞行。月球形成的主要學說以在45億年前曾經有一個小行星猛烈撞擊上地球，造成一團像雲般的碎石環繞著地球，這層碎石雲團後來形成了一個圓環，然後這圓環被壓縮成現在的月球形體。 Mitsunobu Tatsumoto 和 John N. Rosholt 根據阿波羅11號從登陸月球探險時所帶回来的塵土樣品裡的某些成份所做的同位素研究(isotopic study)，提出了月球的實際年龄大約在46億6千萬年左右。 Lee, Halliday, Snyder, 和 Taylor 則有不同的看法，他们認為除了上述的研究之外，還必须把那些同位素裡有某些變化的元素也列進研究的範圍，所以月球的實際年齡有待重新修正的必要，他们估計月球的實際年齡應該接近45億2000年到45億年左右。
